We seek a driven, creative, and strategic Marketing & Communications Director to design and lead a comprehensive communications strategy. This role shapes how the community understands United Way’s mission, impact, and stories of change.


About United Way of Southwestern Indiana

United Way of Southwestern Indiana is a long-standing, dynamic, nonprofit organization that works across sectors to address our community’s most pressing issues. In keeping with our mission, UWSWI empowers individuals and families with resources to support upward mobility through our four Pathways to Potential, our community-focused programs, volunteer mobilization, and advocacy.

 

Key Responsibilities

Communications Leadership

  • Develop and implement year-round PR and communications strategies.
  • Create compelling stories through written, digital, and video content.
  • Lead media relations and serve as primary media contact.
  • Write and edit donor communications, press releases, emails, scripts, and speaking points.

 

Brand Management & Community Engagement

  • Advance and protect the United Way brand.
  • Educate staff and volunteers on branding and messaging.
  • Build strong relationships with community partners and represent UWSWI at events.

 

Marketing Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive marketing plan across print, digital, video, and advertising.
  • Maintain website and social media content.
  • Track performance metrics and optimize engagement.
  • Create promotional materials for events, programs, and the annual campaign.
  • Serve as liaison to the Marketing Committee and coordinate member engagement.

 

Operational Excellence

  • Manage the marketing budget.
  • Collaborate across departments to support communication needs.
  • Ensure all messaging is inclusive, accurate, and accessible.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications, or public relations with 3+ years’ experience. Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Experience managing large-scale campaigns and projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of marketing campaigns.
  • Superior writing, storytelling and editing skills.
  • Ability to translate complex content into engaging messages.
  • Articulate, persuasive presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, email marketing platforms, and social media tools.
  • Works well under pressure; adapts to changing priorities.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to drive for work purposes and attend community events.
  • Ability to perform standard office and computer tasks.
